The former MP and Kancheepuram District Panchayat Council ward member, Kanchi A.Panneerselvam of AIADMK, was elected unanimously in the indirect elections to the post of DPC chairman held here on Tuesday.
The District Election Officer and Collector, S.Sivashanmuga Raja, administered oath of office to Mr. Panneerselvam at a function held at the District Panchayat Office at the Collectorate.
Similarly, another AIADMK ward councillor, P.Subramanian, was also elected unanimously for the post of vice-chairman as the AIADMK enjoyed overwhelming majority in the DPC, where it secured 25 out of 27 wards in the recently-held local body elections.
Meanwhile, the AIADMK bagged the chairman posts in all 13 panchayat unions in the district at the indirect elections to the posts of chairman of panchayat unions held on October 29.
In the indirect elections to the post of vice-chairman in 13 panchayat unions, AIADMK bagged 11 seats while the PMK nominees won in Kancheepuram and Achirapakkam panchayat unions.
The DMK managed to salvage some pride in the indirect elections to the post of vice-chairman of town panchayats held last week where it bagged the seat in six out of 18 town panchayats, while the AIADMK secured the vice-chairman posts in 9 town panchayats.
