Former Park Town MLA Balaraman was injured when an armed gang attacked him at his residence in Old Washermanpet, here on Tuesday. The 52-year-old Congress leader suffered a cut injury on his ear lobe and was admitted to a private hospital. His condition is said to be stable.

According to police sources, the suspects who came in a car entered into a heated argument with Mr. Balaraman, after accusing him of helping Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) founder S. Ramadoss’s brother to join the Congress. Even as he tried to explain, they started assaulting him. One of the suspects slashed a knife across Balaraman’s head inflicting a deep cut on his ear.

Mr. Balaraman raised an alarm, drawing the attention of family members and neighbours. Local people gathered at the scene and nabbed three accused persons who were later identified as Vannai Sathya, PMK North Chennai East District secretary, Sasi Kumar, PMK North Chennai West District deputy secretary, and Hari, PMK Kasimedu area secretary.
