A gang brutally hacked a former functionary of the AIADMK in full public view in Aminjikarai on Tuesday evening.

She died on the way to Government Kilpauk Hospital. The police suspect personal rivalry to be the motive for the killing.

The Amijikarai police said the deceased Kasturi Ekambaram (45), a resident of New Street, MM Colony in Aminjikarai, was the member of the Anna Nagar wing of the ruling party. The attack took place around 4 p.m. when Kasturi was inspecting the construction of a temple in Ponnuvel Pillai Thottam.

The Aminjikarai police have registered a case of murder and have launched a hunt for the killers.
