An Aminjikarai police team arrested a 35-year-old murder suspect from Jalaun district in Uttar Pradesh who has been on the run for the last five years. The detainee and his accomplices killed his employer in Aminjikarai in May, 2007 and fled with cash and mobile phones.

Police said the suspect Jai Singh (35), a native of U.P., was brought to Chennai in 2007 along with Ganga Ram (45) and his son Dharmendra Singh (23), also from U.P., and Munna Lal (27) from Madhya Pradesh, by their employer Ram Babu (37) who ran a pani puri business. Babu had set up roadside stalls for the men and collected a commission from the profit.

On May 8, 2007, Jai Singh, Ganga Ram and Dharmendra Singh smothered Ram Babu with a pillow and then stabbed him. They fled with Rs. 1.50 lakh in cash and two cell phones. Police teams apprehended Ganga Ram, Dharmendra Singh and Munna Lal within months. A fast-track court handed life terms to Ganga Ram and his son while Munna Lal was acquitted.

“A special team arrested Jai Singh on Thursday. He was brought to Chennai and remanded in custody,” said Prem Anand Sinha, DCP, Anna Nagar.
