Fish processing parks proposed

August 05, 2011 08:45 am | Updated August 10, 2016 01:30 pm IST - Chennai:

The government will procure 500 mechanised boats or deep sea tuna liners and develop fish processing parks along the coast.

Announcing this in the budget, it has also said that it will launch a scheme to provide 25 per cent subsidy, up to Rs.5 lakh, to fishermen for procuring mechanised boats or deep sea tuna liners. A pilot project to establish a mid-sea fish processing unit and station a ‘carrier mother vessel' in mid-sea will be taken up.

In addition, in 13 fishing towns along the coast, fish processing parks will be developed. Hereafter the government will give a special allowance of Rs.4,000 per family of fishermen for the non-fishing period.
