A centre for colorectal diseases has been launched at Apollo Main Hospital in the city.

The centre aims at delivering quality care to all patients with colorectal diseases, including colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease and pelvic floor diseases.

The centre will also focus on research, teaching and education, a release said.

A one-stop colorectal clinic will see patients with symptoms of colorectal diseases; the colorectal cancer screening programme will screen patients as these cancers are on the rise and the Apollo pelvic floor centre will provide specialist services to people with pelvic floor disorders. A robotic colorectal surgery programme also offers minimally invasive surgical techniques for treatment.

A multi-disciplinary clinical team consisting of colorectal surgeons, medical gastroenterologists, oncologists, pathologists, radiologists and specialist nurses will be part of the centre, along with a team of scientific and academic staff.
