Theo Seiler, a pioneer in corneal surgery and Daniel Durrie, an expert in laser treatment were honoured at the inaugural of the two-day Indian Intraocular Implant and Refractive Surgery Convention on Saturday.
Health Minister C. Vijaya Bhaskar, who inaugurated the convention, said that the State had doubled its budgetary allocation for health to Rs. 8,245 crore and increased the number of medical colleges.
Chairman Emeritus of Sankara Nethralaya S. S. Badrinath was also presented with the IIRSI special gold medal.
Prince of Arcot Nawab Mohammed Abdul Ali appreciated the members of the Intraocular Implant and Refractive Society, India, for working with the government to provide vision to lakhs.
Amar Agarwal, Secretary General - IIRSI and ophthalmologist Mohan Rajan explained that participants will be shown live demonstrations. A book ‘Optical Coherence Tomography in Ocular Diseases’ authored by Dr. Agarwal was also released on the occasion.
Noshir M. Shroff, president, and Mahipal Sachdev, Chairman Scientific Committee – IIRSI, also spoke.
