In a freak incident, the rakes of an electrical multiple unit got delinked while the train was about to halt at Urapakkam railway station on Wednesday.

Around 11-30 a.m., the Chengalpattu-bound EMU from Chennai Beach was about to stop at Urapakkam railway station when the coupling connecting the 6th and 7th compartments of the rake broke down.

The delinked rake came to a halt on the track on its own as the speed of the train was reduced to halt at Urapakkam station. Subsequently, the EMU rakes were moved to the Tambaram workshop, sources said.

Services on the Chengalpattu-Tambaram section were delayed for about an hour, sources added.
