Chennai Central, the most important rail hub in the city, has limited medical facilities. This is now set to change with Apollo Hospitals opening a round-the-clock medical emergency care centre at the station.
It will be manned by a team of emergency physicians and paramedical staff. Located in the main block adjacent to the Station Master’s room, the centre will have a battery-operated ambulance buggy for transporting people from platforms for immediate medical attention. Also an Advanced Cardiac Life (ACL) support ambulance with a nurse and driver trained in administering first aid would be available permanently at the station, hospital representatives said.
A staff member said the centre would be able to provide commuters immediate care and if required, patients would be shifted to a hospital. Anne Marie Moncure, CEO, Southern Region, Apollo Hospitals, inaugurated the care centre.
