Forty students of Shri Natesan Vidyasala, who have excelled in studies, arts, sports, other co-curricular and extra-curricular activities were chosen and they were taken to Yelagiri Hills free of cost, for extensive training on mountaineering, trekking, river crossing, rappling, bouldering, and jummaring for three days.
During the tour, students were taught about various plants, animal movements and bird watching. Apart from various cultural programmes, on the spot topics on ‘educational reforms’, ‘environmental protection’ were given for developing the art of public speaking.
Yoga, meditation, team building exercises, fun games were part of the tour.
During the seven kilometre tough trekking from Yelagiri to Jalagamparai waterfalls, students cleaned up the garbage and plastics too. They also realised how every drop of water was precious.
The team headed by N. Ramasubramanyan, founder of the school, with four teachers and expert mountaineering team including Thirulogachander and Prabakaran gave various types of training to the students.
Prizes were given to the best team activities and individual excellence.
So far, more than 1000 students have benefitted from such tours to different parts of the country, since the school inception.
