Drunk man kills sons

A father killed his two young sons reportedly in an inebriated state at their home in Tiruvallur on Saturday afternoon after being enraged over his wife refusing to return from her mother’s house following a disagreement over a selling a property.

Police have arrested the man and is being questioned.

Sources with the Kadambathur police said the young victims Veeramani alias Lokesh (7) and Gokul (5) were the children of Anbu and Amulu who lived in their own home in Chitrampakkam village near Kadambathur in Tiruvallur district. Anbu is a daily-wage labourer while Amulu is a homemaker.

Following a disagreement over selling their house, Amulu left to her mother’s house in Thirupachur a week ago with their two boys.

On Saturday afternoon, Anbu went to Thirupachur and an argument ensued between the couple after he demanded Amulu return home.

“As Amulu declined to do so, Anbu forcibly took away Lokesh and Gokul and brought them home. He then went out, consumed alcohol and returned home around 3 p.m. and fed the children before sending them to bed. Then in a brutal act, he stamped the sleeping children forcefully in the neck,” said an investigating officer.

The cries of the children attracted the attention of the neighbours who rushed in, but the children had died by then.

The residents alerted the police and a team from Kadambathur police station reached the spot and arrested Anbu, the officer added.

The bodies were taken to the Government Hospital in Tiruvallur for post-mortem.
