Draft final roll for civic body polls released

The total number of voters in expanded Chennai will be 44.49 lakh

Wards 168 and 169 that were shown as part of Zone XII (Alandur), as per the announcement regarding the expanded Chennai Corporation recently, have been shifted to Zone XIV (Perungudi).

The two wards are being brought under the Corporation from Ullagaram-Puzhuthivakkam Municipality. The name of Zone XIV of the Corporation is also likely to be changed to Ullagaram-Puzhuthivakkam.

Information about the new demarcation of the zones was available when the draft final electoral roll for the civic body elections was published by the Chennai Corporation on Tuesday.

Releasing the rolls, the Corporation Commissioner D.Karthikeyan said the total number of voters in expanded Chennai would be 44.49 lakh.

The number of women voters in the city is 22.06 lakh. As many as 314 voters are transgender.

The electoral rolls would be placed for public scrutiny in all the 10 zonal offices of the Corporation.

Offices of the Municipalities and Town Panchayats that are being merged with the Corporation would also have copies of the electoral rolls.

Forms for inclusion, correction or deletion of names on the rolls would be accepted till the last date of filing of nomination by the candidates for the elections.

As per the rolls released on Tuesday, Tiruvottiyur zone has 1.92 lakh voters, Manali – 0.56 lakh, Madhavaram – 1.27 lakh, Tondiarpet – 4.55 lakh, Royapuram – 3.68 lakh, Thiru.Vi.Ka Nagar – 4.45 lakh, Ambattur – 3.01 lakh, Anna Nagar – 4.80 lakh, Teynampet – 5.12 lakh, Kodambakkam – 5.08 lakh, Valasaravakkam – 2.04 lakh, Alandur – 1.51 lakh, Adyar – 3.66 lakh, Perungudi – 1.62 lakh, Shozhinganallur – 1.14 lakh.
