Fifty-six students of Dr. Ambedkar Government Law College were admitted to Government Kilpauk Hospital after having water from their hostel at Purasawalkam as a dead dog was reportedly discovered in the water tank.
Many experienced giddiness, vomiting and diarrhoea, a senior hospital official said.
A medical team was sent to the college and medicines were distributed to 45 students. Some of them then left for their hometowns.
The other 56 students have been admitted to the hospital and are reported to be in stable condition, hospital authorities said.
“A special team has been formed to look after the students and they are under observation. We have also notified Chennai Corporation authorities about the water situation there,” he said.
