Personnel from the All Women Police Station, Tambaram, have arrested the doctor on charges, including rape. Murali Krishna Bharathy (34), according to police, was a resident of Apparao Colony, Tambaram Sanatorium.

He had completed M.B.B.S. at a private medical college on the city's outskirts. In 2001, he married a woman and separated soon, but the couple was formally divorced in 2006. He had even spent a few months in prison on charges of harassing her. While pursuing his post graduate course in medicine, he got acquainted with another woman student.

According to a press release from by the police, the man had raped the woman and subsequently, performed an abortion on her at a private clinic in Mylapore.

The abortion was done without her knowledge after he drugged her. Following this, the woman lodged a complaint earlier this month with Chennai Police Commissioner J.K.Tripathy who in turn forwarded it to AWPS, Tambaram.
