Heads continued to roll in the DMK after the party failed to win a majority in the Assembly polls and on Tuesday three more party district unit secretaries were relived of their positions.
Party general secretary K. Anbazhagan in a statement said the changes were effected to ensure proper functioning of the party units in districts.
He said the DMK’s Thoothukudi (North) district secretary, K. Rajaram, had been removed from the post and A. Subramanian from Kazhugumalai appointed in his place.
The party also removed former MLA Kuthalam P. Kalyanam from the post of the party’s Nagapattinam (North) district secretary and appointed Nivetha M. Murugan in his place.
Former MP and party heavyweight A.K.S. Vijayan has been removed from the post of the party’s Nagapattinam (South) district secretary. N. Gowthaman has replaced him.
“We have made these changes based on the recommendations of the committee that is touring various districts to study the party’s defeat in the elections. The committee holds talks with party candidates, district secretaries and senior partymen,” a senior leader said.
Already the party removed former Union Minister Gandhi Selvan from the post of the party’s Namakkal (North) district secretary. M. Veeragopal (Coimbatore Urban north) and P.K. Durairaj (Tirunelveli West) have also been relieved of their party posts.
