DMK complains to EC against officials

Alleges AIADMK (Amma) distributed money to R.K. Nagar voters

The opposition DMK has given a complaint to the Election Commission of India alleging that several officials and police officers, including Commissioner of Greater Chennai Corporation have “not been discharging their duty in honest manner” ahead of the bypoll in R.K. Nagar scheduled on April 12.

In a representation, DMK organising secretary R.S. Bharathi alleged though IPS officer S. George had been transferred on their request, several inspectors within the R.K. Nagar constituency were “extending their indirect help to the ruling party to commit various election-related illegalities.”

Recalling an incident on March 25, he alleged that Zonal Officer Vijayakumar, who was on election duty “hesitated even to receive” their complaint given against Ministers Udumalai K. Radhakrishanan and Udayakumar, who “were arranging for distribution of money to voters.”

Alleging that the AIADMK (Amma) distributed money to voters adopting various means and the DMK’s complaint was not looked into properly, the representation sought strict instructions to officials concerned to prevent illegal distribution of money to the voters. The representation also listed out names of police officers and officials who it said should be transferred.

The representation was handed over to Chief Election Commissioner Nasim Zaidi by DMK MPs R.S. Bharathi, T.K.S. Elangovan and Tiruchi Siva in Delhi on Wednesday.
