Display plan on construction sites, says court

July 25, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:57 am IST - CHENNAI:

The Greater Chennai Corporation is set to start cancellation of building licence and planning permission of construction sites that do not display a copy of the plan at the site.

Acting on a directive of the High Court, the civic body has instructed all builders to erect digital banners measuring eight feet in width and six feet in height, depicting the building plan with planning permission and building approval on site.

Any resident can screen the information provided by the builder at the site. Those who find violations will be able to inform the officials concerned. More than 20,000 construction sites are approved by the Greater Chennai Corporation every year. Many buildings are constructed violating the rules even after obtaining planning permission and building approval. The civic body has not taken action against most owners owing to lack of manpower.

Junior engineer of each of the wards in Central Chennai Region will shortly visit construction sites and verify the plans.
