“I am really bored of it now,” said actor Dhanush even as he plunged into yet another energetic rendition of ‘Why this Kolaveri di,' at the College of Engineering Guindy on Wednesday. With his performance, ‘Techofes 2012', the cultural fest of the college took off to a grand start, with as many as 50 different events, including oration, theatre, dance, music and craft all set to be organised over the next three days.
The inaugural event, with Dhanush and music composer Anirudh, mainly revolved around their hit song, before the two, accompanied by another member, Ajeesh, performed other songs including, ‘Come on girls'.
And the constant exhortation to the audience to demand ‘once more,' before the guests arrived seemed almost unnecessary as everyone seemed happy to groove to the ‘kolaveri lyrics,' which later Dhanush said was the “language of the youngsters.”
“Kolaveri definitely does not deserve the applause it deserved. There is nothing in the song,” he added. “But the little effort that went into the song was very sincere. I urge all of you to put in your sincere best at whatever you do,” said the actor.
“There is no way I could have come into Anna University with my marks, especially since I had failed in mathematics in class XII. But I am happy I made it, at least this way,” he added.
Anirudh cited an entirely different reason why the inaugural performance was memorable for him. “I was there last year too, as a participant of a band that came second in the light music round,” said the Loyola college alumnus, who graduated last year.
P.Mannar Jawahar, Vice-Chancellor, Anna University and M. Sekar, Dean of College of Engineering Guindy, participated in the inaugural fest. The fest will also present workshops on French cookery, music and Tamil poetry, besides regular performances by cinema and classical artists. The Hindu is the media partner for the event.
