Police on Sunday found the decomposed body of a homemaker, wrapped in polythene covers and hidden in a shelf of her residence in Guindy. The woman's husband and relatives who resided with her are allegedly absconding. Police suspect it to be a case of murder.
Sources with the Guindy police identified the deceased as Banya Biswas (23), wife of S. Biswas (30), a homeopathy practitioner in Bharati Nagar near Guindy Railway Station. The couple hailing from Nadia district of West Bengal were married five years ago and have a three-year-old son.
Sassui Biswas, younger brother of Biswas, and his wife Phalguni Biwas were also residing with them in the same house. The brothers were running a consultancy firm, police sources said.
According to an investigating officer, Biswas left home on Tuesday after informing his house owner Varadharajan (69), residing at another portion that he was leaving for his native village with his family. Sassui Biswas also left on Thursday.
Speaking to The Hindu , N.K. Senthamarai Kannan, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Adyar, said that the death could have occurred four days ago. “A case of unnatural death has been registered and post-mortem report is awaited. We suspect the victim's husband, his brother and wife. A special team has been formed to trace them,” Mr. Kannan added.
According to police sources, S. Biswas along with his son had reached West Bengal and that had been communicated to Banya's parents by relatives a few days ago.
Meanwhile, the victim's parents based in West Bengal had grown suspicious as there was a pending case in West Bengal against Biswas for assaulting their daughter. They contacted a relative in T. Nagar on Saturday, to enquire about their daughter.
