Straying monkeys often ransack kitchens in houses, but the story of a monkey recently captured by wildlife authorities is a strange one.
This one is only interested in milk packets.
A week ago, officials at the wildlife headquarters office received a strange complaint regarding an adult male monkey that was targeting an apartment complex in Tiruvanmiyur.
In the early mornings, when milk packets would be delivered at apartments, even before the residents could take it, the monkey would pick them up and gulp the contents in no time.
Following complaints from residents, the authorities set a small trap cage in the apartment. Two days after the cage was set, the monkey was trapped. Now, he is missing his milk packets in the morning and spending his time inside a cage at the wildlife headquarters office in Velachery.
R. Sekar, who complained to the wildlife authorities, said the monkey only seemed interested in milk packets. Whenever it saw the open doors of a house, it would go in and sit on the dining table, but not create any other problems.
Because of its size, however, residents got scared and informed the wildlife authorities, he said.
This particular simian’s dairy fascination has made it pile on the kilos. The animal weighs nearly 17 kg, which is unusual for its tribe, said wildlife authorities.
