With over 200 directors pitching in their creative ideas, the Tamil Nadu Directors' Union will organise a day-long event to celebrate its 40th year on October 23.

The programme, divided into three parts, would have a music show, seminar and a cultural night, said the event's organising secretary R.K. Selvamani. Addressing media persons here on Sunday, he said the event, to be held at Nehru Indoor Stadium, would have a music show from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., featuring leading musicians across the country, belting out chartbusters in a chronological order.

A seminar on the recent trends in cinema and the role of directors would follow the music show. Directors from various film industries, especially those from southern parts of the country, would come together to discuss and share their ideas to better the art of filmmaking.

The highlight of the event would be the cultural night, which is expected to see pan -India participation. “We will have artistes dancing for popular numbers, comedians putting up skits, and directors planning the entire show,” said V.C. Kuganathan, a member of the advisory panel. Director Bharathiraja, one of the chairpersons of the event, said it would throw light on the role of directors and be a platform to seek better representation from the State and Central governments. The Union has also plans to acquire land shortly to build conference halls, audio-visual rooms and library for the directors to meet and share ideas. Chairperson K.
