Youth from West Bengal fires three rounds in his head with his rifle

A 23-year-old Central Reserve Police Force constable recruit Kailash Chandra Roy killed himself with a rifle in the Avadi CRPF recruit training centre on Thursday.

According to police, Kailash Chandra Roy, son of Sachin Chandra Roy, was from West Bengal.

He was undergoing training at the centre for the past eight months and he was supposed to complete it in a month’s time.

On Thursday morning, he was on duty guarding the armoury on the campus. Around 6.35 a.m,, he took an Indian New Small Arms System (INSAS) rifle and shot himself on the right side of the head.”

Police said he fired three rounds.

He was rushed to the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital. “He was declared dead on arrival around 9.30 a.m. Post-mortem will be done on Friday,” said a policeman at the hospital police outpost.

A case has been registered by the Avadi Tank Factory police under Section 174 of Cr.P.C. (unnatural death) based on a complaint from Anuj Padhak, Wing Commander, CRPF.

Probe under way

“We suspect that he was under depression. It might be because he was away from his family or due to a personal problem. We are investigating. The CRPF is also conducting an inquriy into the issue,” added a senior police officer. Further investigation is on.
