A crocodile, measuring more than 5 feet, was found trapped in a thorny bush in Sadhanandapuram lake near Tambaram, and was rescued by staff of the forest department on Friday.
Residents of Sadhanandapuram were grazing their cattle on the dry lake bed when one of them noticed the crocodile in the bush.
On receiving information, a team from the forest department reached the spot and rescued the crocodile.
“It is a marsh crocodile and an eight-member team struggled hard to handle it and tie its snout,” said a forest official, adding that the reptile was handed over to officials of Vandalur zoo.
Residents said they found a crocodile in the same spot six months ago.
Since 2007, several marsh crocodiles had been rescued in adjoining areas, they said.
Residents can contact the office of the wildlife warden at 22200335, an official said.
