Man hacked to death
A gang armed with deadly weapons allegedly hacked a man to death at Kodungaiyur on Saturday.
According to police sources, Krishnan alias Krishta alias Kalaiarasan (34) of Sathyamoorthy Nagar in Vysarpadi, a functionary of the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, was sleeping at a house in Erukancheri when Prakash called him around 12.30 a.m.
Prakash requested Krishnan to accompany him to a nearby police station where police had detained one of his friends for interrogation. Though his wife Mala objected, Krishnan went along. A little later, Prakash was joined by four others, who hacked Krishnan to death. The body was shifted to the Stanley Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem. A previous enmity is suspected to be the motive, the sources added.
A head constable was injured when the rear wheel of a truck crushed a part of his leg, at Koyambedu on Friday night.
Police said Dasarathan (45) attached to the Koyambedu police station was on duty on Poonamallee High Road when the truck entered the wrong lane. As he tried to intercept the vehicle, one of its wheels crushed a part of his leg.
Dasarathan was shifted to a private hospital. Efforts are on to locate the vehicle, police said.
Burglars allegedly broke into a house at Washermanpet and decamped with Rs. 10,000 and 12 sovereigns of ornaments. According to police sources, Meghavarnam (40) of East Cemetery Road, returned home on Friday night after going on a holiday with his family and found his house burgled. The suspects had broken the lock and taken away the valuables kept in an almirah.
Credit card misused
A British national has lodged a complaint with the Royapettah police that somebody stole his wallet and used his credit card to withdraw money.
According to police, Nathan Daniel Curry said in his complaint that Rs. 14,000 was drawn from an ATM using his credit card. Investigators have written to officials of the private bank to provide the images recorded by surveillance camera in the ATM when the offence took place.
