The Madras High Court has upheld an order of the Principal Family Court here dissolving the marriage between the renowned mandolin player, U.Srinivas and U.Sree.

In its judgment on appeals filed by U.Sree challenging the Family Court order, a Division Bench comprising Justices Elipe Dharma Rao and M.Venugopal observed: “When the parties cannot live in peace, no purpose will be served in keeping the parties tied by the bond of marital relationship.” While granting the relief, the court should not shy away from the realities. “In the present case, the stage has reached between the parties that it is impossible for them to live together in view of the allegations and counter-allegations made by each of the parties, mentally and psychologically affecting them and the same has gone to such an extent that each party has developed repulsion to the other.”

The Bench opined that no useful purpose would be served in keeping the marriage intact and make the party suffer. The marital ties had broken down. The wedding of the two took place on May 27, 1994 at Tirupati. They filed petitions before the Family Court. The court passed an order dissolving their marriage. The lower court had ordered payment of Rs. 5 lakh each to U. Sree and her minor son. The Bench directed Mr. Srinivas to pay another Rs.5 lakh each to both towards permanent maintenance in full and final settlement within a month.
