Adopting a recommendation by the University Grants Commission (UGC), the University of Madras will include a chapter on ethics, anti-corruption and vigilance in all under-graduate and post-graduate courses.
The inclusion of these topics would equip the university’s students with knowledge about organisations and agencies associated with tackling corruption such as the Central Vigilance Commission and how they can go about filing complaints regarding corrupt practices.
“We will introduce this in electives or allied courses for the students,” said P. Duraisamy, Vice-Chancellor of the university.
While a member of the academic council spoke about the need to upgrade syllabi every five years with respect to the industry requirements and technological advancements, the Vice-Chancellor said the university was already taking steps to revise the curriculum periodically.
The performance of all the academic departments in universities would be reviewed every three years.
