Countries should join hands to limit dangers of climate change: TN Governor

September 16, 2009 04:33 pm | Updated 04:33 pm IST - Chennai:

Highlighting the dangers of global warming, Tamil Nadu Governor Surjit Singh Barnala said on Wednesday that countries should join hands and share their research to limit the dangers of climate change and promote sustainable development.

Climatic conditions have changed due to human activity and long term policies should be designed to protect citizens from the dangers of climate change, he said.

“Addressing the problems and evolving effective diplomacy in mitigating climate change is the need of the hour,” he said at an international conference on climate change and environmental sustainability in India, organised by Madras University.

The focus should be on galvanizing efforts to respond to climate change and formulate plans to reduce global warming. This would be made possible by going in for an eco-friendly lifestyle pattern coupled with harvesting of natural resources of power like solar and wind energy, he said.

“We need to develop strategies to make use of solar energy and wind energy for both domestic and industrial purposes. It will be most cost effective also,” he added.
