A complaint was filed with the Ambattur Estate Police after rotten eggs were pelted at Hasan Maulana, the Congress candidate from Ambattur near the Wavin-Athipet junction here on Wednesday.

Police sources said that miscreants had thrown rotten eggs and an empty alcohol bottle at Mr Hasan’s car when he was in the area to campaign ahead of the elections. He however claimed that the eggs had been filled with acid and complained of feeling ill. He was taken to the Kilpauk Medical College.

The police said that the Election Commission had been informed of the incident. An FIR had been registered against Maulana ona Tuesday after an AIADMK worker lodged a complaint against him alleging harassment.
