Conditional clearance for Metro Rail

April 30, 2015 02:22 am | Updated 03:15 am IST - CHENNAI:

Chennai Metro Rail finally received the mandatory clearance for beginning services from the Commissioner Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) on Wednesday. But the conditional clearance is valid only for the Koyambedu-Ashok Nagar stretch.

Speaking to The Hindu , a top official of CMRS said, “We gave authorisation on Thursday for commencing services between Koyambedu to Ashok Nagar, but with some conditions.”

Technical issues

A team of officials of the CMRS from Bengaluru inspected the stations and the viaduct of Chennai Metro Rail last week between Koyambedu to Ashok Nagar and pointed out some technical issues that need correction.

Officials noted that an inspection of the stretch between Ashok Nagar to Alandur could not be carried out owing to some issues. Also a few rules have to be modified for carrying out the inspection.

After this, the Centre has to give its clearance.
