Compensation for Dalit’s murder sought

January 28, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:32 am IST - CHENNAI:

The Madras High Court on Tuesday directed the Additional Government Pleader to get instructions on a writ petition seeking relief under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act for the murder of a woman in December last year due to inter-caste wedding.

Justice T.S. Sivagnanam has posted the matter for further hearing on February 6.

The petitioner, N. Ganesan of Keezha Maruthur of Tiruvarur district, submitted that his daughter Amirthavalli fell in love with Palaniyappan, a caste Hindu. Palaniyappan’s family and the local people never accepted the marriage. The petitioner submitted that he was providing assistance to his daughter. She, her husband and the couple’s infant were murdered in December last year.
