Residents of Velachery seek a direct MTC service to Pallavaram. Commuters now board 51 (Velachery to Tambaram West) or 5A (T. Nagar to Tambaram West) or A51 (East Tambaram to Broadway) from Vijaya Nagar terminus and alight at Dr. Kamakshi Memorial Hospital Bus Stop. There, they board 91 (Thiruvanmiyur to Tambaram), 91G (Thiruvanmiyur to Guduvancherry) or 91V (Thiruvanmiyur to Vandalur Zoo) and alight at Chromepet railway station bus stop (eastern side of Grand Southern Trunk Road) and board another bus towards Chennai International Airport or Poonamallee in the opposite direction (western side).

“There is a cut service — route number 91 (Thiruvanmiyur to Pallavaram) — but it is not frequent. The services of route numbers 500J ( Velachery to Chengalpattu) and 21J (Velachery to Guduvancherry) which ply via Camp Road and Madras Export Processing Zone are also erratic. MTC should introduce a few cut services up to Pallavaram, at least during rush hour,” says M. Kasi Raju, a commuter.

Commuters who come from Pallavaram to Velachery board 66K (Poonamallee to Keezhkatalai) and alight at Eechangadu and board 91 and alight at Dr. Kamakshi Memorial Hospital bus stop, and board 51, A51, or 5A to reach Velachery.

Residents want frequency of M1P (Thiruvanmiyur – Pozhichalur via Velachery, Keelkattalai, Pallavaram and Pammal) to be increased.

MTC officials point out that they have not received any representations in this regard from the commuters. If commuters make a representaiton, steps will be taken to do the needful, officials add.
