The Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) on Friday sealed two commercial buildings in Periamet for violating building norms.
According to officials, while the planning permission given by the Chennai Corporation for one of the buildings, on Cuddappa Rangaiah Street in February 2007, was for construction of ground floor and first floor, the owner had constructed four more floors for commercial purpose.
The ground floor and first floor are also in deviation to the approved plan in terms of setback and use.
Another building on the same street also had deviation and officials locked and sealed its top three floors. The planning permission obtained from the Corporation of Chennai in August 2007 was for the construction of ground and first floor.
The construction of additional three floors and deviation to the ground and first floors in terms of setback and use was the reason for sealing the buildings, according to officials.
Action is now being taken to vacate and seal the ground floor and the first floor, said a press release.
