Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Thursday announced a number of electricity upgradation projects in the State, including the setting up of an ultra mega solar photovoltaic power park.
Making a series of suo motu announcements under Rule 110 of the Legislative Assembly, the Chief Minister said a 500 MW solar park would be set up in Narippurai and surrounding villages in Ramanathapuram district. This would come up at an estimated investment of ₹2,350 crore, he said.
Apart from this, a 400 kilowatt substation would be set up at Manalmedu in Nagapattinam at a cost of ₹650 crore; a new 400 kilowatt substation would be set up at Koyambedu in Chennai at a cost of ₹1,300 crore, and a total of 128 new substations would also be set up. The electricity department will also undertake strengthening and upgradation work, he said.
He also announced the setting up of a multi-modal logistics park at a cost of ₹1,295 crore at Puzhuthivakkam and Vayalur villages in Tiruvallur district, spread over 360 acres.
The government will set up three industrial parks for small and medium enterprises at a cost of ₹77 crore, he said. The government will also raise the reservation limit of 3% for physically handicapped persons to 4% in government jobs, he said.
