Sometimes, it is just about making a difference in people’s lives. And, Tamil writer Sivasankari said she incorporated her understanding of how Pratap C. Reddy, founder of Apollo Hospitals, did that in the Tamil version of Healer.
Borrowing an Assamese proverb to express her awe, she said: “It was like stuffing an elephant in a pot. Dr. Reddy’s life is an inspiration for us. I couldn’t get as crisp a title as Healer so I took it to mean visionary.”
Meena Muthiah, who received the first copy of the Tamil version of Healer, Dirgadarisi, from Jaggi Vasudev, founder of Isha Foundation, said the work would be a motivation for young doctors.
It was his single-mindedness, determination and dedication that made it possible for him to achieve what he has, she said adding, “(Dr.) Reddy is to medicine what Nehru was to politics.”
Nephrologist M.K. Mani recalled his association with Dr. Reddy over five decades. He termed the title of the book apt.
