Wednesday dawned with murky skies and intermittent rains that played spoilsport for office goers and school children.

Officials of the meteorological department said the city would receive moderate rainfall over the next two days.

While residents enjoyed the dip in temperatures — nearly nine degrees Celsius below the average of 34 degrees Celsius — they had to endure severe traffic snarls on waterlogged arterial roads.

Trees were uprooted in 14 places, including on Ambattur Estate Road, Shanthi Colony Main Road in Anna Nagar, Flowers Road in Purasawalkam and Lake Area, Nungambakkam.

An upper air cyclonic circulation near coastal Andhra Pradesh resulted in the rains. Nungambakkam recorded 4 cm and Meenambakkam registered 2 cm on Wednesday.
