Chennai Rail Museum to feature famous artists

Chennai Rail Museum is hosting the third edition of its art gallery camp with live canvas painting by a galaxy of veteran artists from across the country, on May 20.

These artworks will be on display at the two galleries of the Museum. Based on the theme ‘A Zug Journey’, the event will feature prominent artists, including Asma Menon, Thejomaye Menon, Jacob Jebjai, B.O. Shailesh, Benita Terciyan, Antony Raj, Ashana Sharmeen Iahaq, Archana Krishnamoorthy, Illayaraja, Rajendra Prasad and R.S. Sakia.

There will also be an outdoor exhibition and sale of scale models of coaches and bogies like Deenadayalu coach, Antodaya coach, coach from Maharajas’Express, Prince of Wales 204 Saloon and Sheep Van ER-97488 (255), among others.

These are priced from ₹550 to ₹2,500.

According to organisers, the art gallery camp is a periodic event of the museum, aimed at collecting paintings for their art galleries.

Located on New Avadi Road, Chennai Rail Museum (CRM) has two art galleries which feature an works of many artists and present various train journeys.

Visitors are also treated to a rare collection of antique pictures and miniatures of train coaches, gathered over the years and toy train rides.

“While visitors to other railway museums get a visual experience, here, we explain the mechanism of locomotives and also allow people to operate them,” says Arun Devaraj, the curator and deputy of CRM.

The Museum is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
