Youth embark on 4,000-km bike journey

November 28, 2014 08:24 am | Updated 08:24 am IST - KANCHEEPURAM:

Four members of Chennai-based ID Students Association have embarked on a 4,000-km bike journey from Kanyakumari to Kashmir to create awareness of the negative impact of import-oriented consumerism on the economy.

The team members — Bijli of Tirunelveli, Naveen from Arakkonam, and Sherif and Dayalan from Chennai — commenced their journey from Kanyakumari on two motorcycles on November 18.

Talking to reporters here on Thursday, they said the obsession towards foreign products among Indian consumers results in a huge outflow of money from the country.

This can be checked if Indian consumers prefer to buy similar-quality products manufactured by Indian companies.

The group plans to reach Jammu in the first week of February 2015, passing through Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Nagpur, New Delhi and Ludhiana.
