Graffiti on private and public property in the city has been completely removed, according to estimates by Chennai District Election Office. On Monday, officials removed posters in more than 900 locations.
The election office has not received any complaints on graffiti in the past six days. Over 9,300 complaints pertaining to graffiti were received by the election office until April 15. The toll-free helpline 18004257012 continues to receive complaints on banners in a number of localities.
Officials had begun work on clearing political graffiti, posters and banners after the notification of elections on March 5. Wall posters were the most important challenge to preventing defacement of property. Local law on Chennai does not permit defacement of private or public property.
