Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Friday commissioned schemes, through video conference, to provide water supply networks in Ambattur, Maduravoyal, Tiruvottiyur and Alandur at a cost of Rs. 380.49 crore.
The long-pending schemes to cover Madhavaram and Ambattur (I and V phases) with underground drainage network was also commissioned at a cost of Rs. 86.04 crore. Several schemes to improve the distribution network in various parts of the city to ensure better water supply with adequate pressure were also inaugurated.
The areas include West Saidapet, Tondiarpet, Old Washermenpet, K.K.Nagar and T.Nagar. Schemes to the tune of Rs. 548.67 crore implemented by Metrowater were inaugurated. Ms. Jayalalitha also inaugurated the Rangarajapuram subway constructed at a cost of Rs.1.74 crore. Motorcyclists and pedestrians began using the subway at 12.45 p.m..
“Traffic in the subway was permitted from both sides on Friday. After a few days, traffic police may bring new restrictions based on the local conditions,” said an official of Chennai Corporation.
