What Chennaiyin FC achieved on the field with its classy display against Mumbai City FC in an Indian Super League match here on Tuesday, India cricket captain M.S. Dhoni, co-owner of the home team, did with his mere presence — wowed thousands of fans.

Emerging from the tunnel 30 minutes before the match wearing the No. 7 jersey, the star cricketer went around the athletic track, with the fans going berserk every time he waved.

During the break, Dhoni donned the role of a goalkeeper. One save was top-notch — diving to his right, he pushed the ball away. Then, Abhishek Bachchan, another co-owner of Chennaiyin FC, did his best to rev up the crowd.

Donning a lungi, the actor went along with Dhoni around the track. He and Dhoni then went to the special ‘Super Fan’ stand (for winners of the Twitter contest). Loads of ‘selfies’ with the celebrities followed.

To a question by a sports channel, on playing football for his school, Dhoni said, “That was 15 years ago. I still do [play] a bit. It is similar to wicket-keeping. It is good to be back on the football field — my first love. But of course, the standard [now] is high. The players are playing good football. I hope Chennai comes and supports the team.”
