A recent meeting between the police and the residents of Chennai Journalist Colony Welfare Association, Tiruvanmiyur, focussed on safety and security issues.
Inspector Chandru said, “Such meetings help bridge the gap between the public and the police. We have been instructed by the Chennai City Police Commissioner S. George to meet residents of various areas regularly and encourage them to adopt basic crime prevention measures.
He also wanted the residents to inform the police immediately if they came across any abandoned vehicle or a person found to be moving in a suspicious manner.”
He advised senior-citizens to be more cautious while walking on the road. P. Deivasigamani, Assistant Commissioner of Police, said: “The public can take part in night-patrolling along with police personnel during the early hours.”
He asked the association members to install CCTV cameras in Journalists’ Colony. “We will take steps soon to install the same,” said Palanisamy.
Chandru said efforts would be taken to increase policing in the colony between 4 p. m and 6 p.m. Pamphlets containing safety measures, telephone numbers of police stations and cell numbers of Deputy Commissioner (Adyar), Inspector (J13 Taramani), Inspector (J6 Thiruvanmiyur), Crime (J6 Thiruvanmiyur), Police Control Room, 108 (Medical Emergency) were distributed to the residents.
