In commemoration of 150th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, Sri Ramakrishna Math, Mylapore, has constituted a Citizens’ Committee. The first meeting of the forum was held recently under the chairmanship of Swami Gautamanandaji, Adhyaksha, Sri Ramakrishna Math. 43 members attended and the salient features of the year-long celebration in Tamil Nadu are renovation of Vivekanandar Illam and setting up of Vivekananda Cultural Centre; to develop Meyyur, a backward village in Thiruvallur district, as a model village; to conduct competitions for students at national-level; sale of subsidised publications of the institution worth Rs. one crore across Tamil Nadu; to take Vivekananda Ratham throughout the State in 300 days; to present Vivekananda Bravery Award, to outstanding teachers, students, police personnel, doctors and social workers; to organise workshops on teachings of Swami Vivekananda ; to install statues of Swami Vivekananda throughout the State; to organise youth camps in all districts of Tamil Nadu, to observe Anti-Leprosy Day; and to conduct one-year courses Vivekananda Sanskrit and Vivekananda Hinduism and six-month course in Study Vivekananda.
