A popular post circulated on Facebook says – ‘Just because you have a DSLR Camera doesn’t make you a photographer.’ To own a camera is one thing, but to get paid for the photographs you take is quite different.

Understanding the need to train aspiring photographers in professional photography, Karthik Srinivasan, a popular celebrity and ad photographer, has joined hands with Hindustan University to start Hits Academy of Photography.

“We have three courses — A six-month diploma course open to everybody, a one-year diploma course for those who have passed 12th standard and our flagship course, one-year PG Diploma in Ad Photography,” says Karthik, who has travelled all over the world to see what is offered there and based on it designed the curriculum.

When Karthik moved to Chennai from Madurai to pursue photography, he did not know how to go about it. After being rejected by some photography schools, it was a hard task to find his way into the industry. “Photography is an expensive course that not many institutes offer. I had to struggle in my initial years and I always wanted to start a school where photography is taught at affordable cost,” he says. Karthik has roped in experts to teach different kinds of photography to students.

Photography is not as easy as it looks. An advertisement photographer has to keep a lot of things in mind. The way a sari ad is shot is different from a jewellery ad and Karthik wants his students to know the nitty-gritty. “Anybody can click a picture and produce an image, but it is important to know the techniques. I have specialists to teach them every detail. Moreover, they will get a chance to assist me in a live shoot.”

The campus is at No.40, GST Road, St. Thomas Mount. Log on to>www.hitskarthiksrinivasan.in for details. Contact: 96001 57723
