Man murders wife

Angry over his wife for not keeping dinner ready for him, a construction worker kicked, assaulted and strangulated his pregnant wife to death at Medavakkam near Tambaram on Tuesday. Pallikaranai police, who are investigating, said Seenu (26) and Geetha (20) were employed at an apartment complex which is under construction at Vadakkupattu Main Road in Medavakkam. A habitual drinker, Srinivasan used to quarrel with his wife every night at the workers’ quarters in which they were living. On Tuesday, he came home again under the influence of alcohol and was angry as dinner was not yet ready. When he asked Geetha, she said it will take some time and that she found it difficult to cook fast.

In a fit of rage, Srinivasan assaulted her and reportedly kicked her in the stomach before strangulating his wife. Fellow workers came to her rescue, took her to a local clinic from where she was taken to the Government Kasturba Hospital for Women and Children in Triplicane. She was then referred to the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital, where was pronounced dead on arrival. Geetha was six months pregnant. Srinivasan was arrested on Wednesday morning.

MBA graduate held for chain snatching

Residents of Rajakilpakkam along with policemen on regular patrol together nabbed a chain snatching offender near Tambaram on Monday evening. The suspect is a 28-year-old postgraduate in business administration, who is reported to have taken to crime as he was unemployed.

Selaiyur police said Bala, a senior-citizen, was alone at her home when a stranger knocked at her door and picked up a conversation with her in the pretext of seeking the direction to an address.

He then asked her to bring a mug of water. When she returned, the youth assaulted her and fled from the house. Two women living nearby noticed the incident and raised an alarm and began pursuing the suspect. A couple of policemen from Selaiyur who were on patrol duty that time managed to overpower the suspect and took him for interrogation to the police station, where he was identified as Srinivasan of Pallavaram and an MBA graduate. Further investigations are on.
