Red worms, bacteria and virus are highly prevalent in city’s drinking water sources. On many occasions water that fills our sumps are contaminated with sewage or unclean water. As a result we end up spending a substantial amount on packaged water, the quality of which is not known to us.

Mark Baxter, an organic chlorine safe tablet, which has been in use for more than three years now in Chennai, helps eliminate germs, worms, bacteria, virus, fungus, algae and any parasite, biofilm, plankton etc. Coming in strengths such as 7g & 20g it can be bought in one kg containers.

Yet to catch up with the daily users, the new generation organic tablet, manufactured by BM Aqua Tech Pvt. Ltd. Hyderabad, is not available in the local market and can be ordered only from Shree Biosafe.

“It is being used by Assam Rifles (Indian Army), Delhi Jal Board, Government of Puducherry, National Rural Health Mission and many other government departments,” says K. V. Danesh, MD, Shree Biosafe, a distributor of Chennai region. “Once the water is disinfected with the tablet, it can be consumed directly and eliminates boiling”.

Mode of use

The tablet (one a day) has to be thrown into water tanks or sumps depending upon the capacity. For a sump of capacity 1,000-5,000 litres, a tab of strength 7g is necessary and if it exceeds 10,000 litres, the strength of the tab has to be increased to 20 g. The tablet is effervescent and takes 30 minutes to dissolve and has a stability of 48 hours. Also it releases chlorine only when dissolved in water. Unlike inorganic chlorine powder or bleaching powder it does not have any side effects. The tablet does not have any unpleasant taste or odour and is less corrosive against steel and rubber. The tablets have a shelf life of two years and is safe for children and pregnant women. Once dissolved completely, it is able to efficiently do away with algae formation also. This in fact helps to avoid frequent cleaning of the tanks (a time consuming and labour intensive process).

As it controls diseases to a large extent, it can be safely used in hospitals for rinsing bed linen and surgical equipment. It finds immense use in hotels for drinking water and pre-chlorination of RO feed water.

The tablet has been approved by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), WHO & EPA (Enviromental Protection Agency, U. S. A.). “It is said to prevent waterborne diseases such as typhoid, diarrhoea, jaundice, chlorea, polio and gastroenteritis,” assures Mr. Danesh.

Presently the product is being used in residential apartments, hospitals, hotels, swimming pools, housing colony, schools, colleges and in overhand tanks and tanker lorries. Those interested in buying the tablet can reach Shree Biosafe at 14, I Street, Govindaraja Puram, Adyar. Ph: 78068 05544; 94449 03659.
