Nearly 600 students from 20 city schools participated in ‘Vidyouth 13’, a cultural extravaganza, at Anna Adarsh Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Anna Nagar, recently. The literary and other talents of the students were identified through 40 competitions including artificial jewellery making, soap carving, paper work and nail art.
A paper presentation on the topic ‘Are women really empowered?’ was conducted for students from Class IV to Class XII. The students of Anna Adarsh presented a colourful host show, a good start for the day.
H. Vasanthakumar, chairman and managing director, Vasanth & Co., and Vasanth TV, cited the examples of Dr. Muthulakshmi, born in Pudukottai, who became the first lady doctor in Tamil Nadu and of Wilma who won the Olympic gold medal despite being affected by polio.
He promised a cash award of Rs.2 lakh to the Anna Adarsh School student who gets a State rank in X and XII public examination. A portrait of him, drawn by Aharika Baskar, a student of Anna Adarsh, was presented to him along with a memento.
N. Lalitha, educational advisor, Adarsh Group of School, praised the dedication of the school teachers. Film and small screen personalities entertained the gathering.
Vasanthi, associate professor, Department of English, Loyola College, stressed the importance of women education, which would make them economically self-sufficient.
Airtel super singer Vyjaintheeshree and Nithyashree entertained the audience by singing popular songs. The overall championship cup was bagged by SBOA Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Anna Nagar West.
The cultural bonanza with dance, music and other forms of art ended with the vote of thanks by Parvathy Suryanarayanan, the school’s cultural co-ordinator.
