Six persons, including a man who murdered a policeman last year, were arrested by the JJ Nagar police in connection with the killing of a man on Friday.

The incident took place on Friday afternoon when the victim Sivalingam (35), a construction worker and a resident of Padi Pudhu Nagar, Anna Nagar West Extension, was taking part in the funeral procession of his friend’s father. Sivalingam got into an argument with his acquaintance Ashok after he objected to the latter dancing in the procession.

An enraged Ashok called six men — Vimal Raj alias ‘Psycho’ Vimal, Vasu, Stephen, Raj, Purushothaman and Azhaguraja, all from Padi Pudhu Nagar. They intercepted Sivalingam when he returned after the last rites and assaulted him and his elder brother Pandian. They stabbed Sivalingam and left him to bleed to death.

J J Nagar police registered a case of murder and apprehended the six men. Vimal Raj was involved in the brutal murder of a police head constable in Ice House last May. The policeman, C. Thiyagarajan of Kotturpuram police station, had gone to Chellammal Thottam in Ice House to question Vimal Raj in connection with a burglary when the latter stabbed him in the neck. The policeman died at a hospital later, sources added.
