Burglars broke into a house in Kovur near Mangadu and took away an electronic safe, reportedly containing gold jewellery weighing 55 sovereigns. The inhabitants were at their native place in Madurai.
Mangadu police sources said the burglary took place at the residence of Ranjith Gandhi and his wife Rathi, on Vinayagar Koil Street at Periyapanichery. The two are software professionals and had left for Madurai three days ago.
The couple’s domestic help Rajeswari had come to water the plants in their garden on Sunday evening when she noticed that the door locks were broken. She alerted the couple following which they rushed home on Monday and alerted the police. The burglars had welded out an electronic safe containing the gold jewellery which was part of an almirah in the house .
Mobile phone shop burgledBurglars struck at a mobile phone showroom on Vivekanandar Nagar Main Road in Korattur early on Monday and fled with nearly 200 handsets, Rs. 40,000 and a laptop.
The burglary took place at the showroom owned by David, a resident of Vivekanandar Nagar, Korattur, after he closed it on Sunday night. He returned on Monday morning to find the shutter lock broken and the showroom ransacked.
