The CBI court on Friday convicted a Customs officer and sentenced him to two years’ rigorous imprisonment in a disproportionate assets case.
The anti-corruption branch of CBI registered a case against B. Pugazhenthi, superintendent of Customs, Chennai, after it found that from January 1, 2004, to November 30, 2009, he had acquired disproportionate assets, both movable and immoveable, to the tune of over Rs. 89 lakh in his name and in the names of his family members.
He could not provide satisfactory explanation for disproportionate assets amounting to Rs. 64 lakh.
K. Paramaraj, XIII additional special judge for CBI cases, imposed a fine of Rs. 20,000 on him, and also ordered the attachment of his properties.
