The stand-off between producer R.K. Suresh of Studio 9 and actor Vijay Sethupathi, over the latter not honouring an agreement, could pave the way for the strengthening of the Tamil Film Producers’ Council.
The story goes that the actor had taken an advance from the producer in 2013 to star in a film titled Vasanthakumaran.
In a statement to the media, Sethupathi has agreed to settle the dues, but Suresh isn’t happy with the fact that the actor has moved onto his next project, produced by actor Dhanush.
“After giving him an advance in early 2013, I was hoping we could do the film at least in the second half of 2014. It is unacceptable that he has begun work on his next film, Naanum Rowdy Dhaan. A formal complaint will be filed with Nadigar Sangam and we will press for a red card against him,” said Suresh.
The producer flatly declined the actor’s allegation that he was being threatened and intimidated.
He further said that the producers’ council must be strengthened so that producers are not taken for granted. “I have spent a lot of money in the pre-production stage and waited for more than 2 years. Is it fair on his part to pull out now?” Suresh says.
